Wells Co. SWCD Supervisors
The Wells Co. SWCD board consists of 3 elected and 2
appointed supervisors. These positions are
three-year terms. Appointed Supervisors are
selected based on recommendations from the SWCD and
approved by the State Soil Conservation Board. The
elected Supervisors are nominated by the election
committee, and the SWCD holds the election at the SWCD
Annual meeting to fill the expiring term of the elected
Supervisor.
To be nominated as a candidate for the office of
Supervisor, individuals must be of voting age, own or
rent a tract of land that is more than 10 acres in size
and located within the district (Wells County), and must
maintain his or her permanent residence within the
district (Wells County).
At the Supervisor election (during the SWCD Annual
Meeting), any individual of voting age or a
representative of a firm,
company, or corporation that owns or rents land or
property
within the district (Wells County) may vote.
Eligible individuals include the owner and tenant of the
same land or property as well as the owner's or tenant's
spouse.

Supervisor Election Candidates
Candidates for the SWCD Supervisor election that will be
conducted at the 2009 annual meeting are Dale Thomas and
Alan Stout.

Dale Thomas lives in Union township and farms
approximately 975 acres. His family also raises
4-H animals. Dale's conservation practices include
no-till; minimum till; grass waterways; and filter
strips. His leadership experience includes serving
three terms on the Wells Co. 4-H Extension board, and he
has been an SWCD Supervisor since 2006.
Alan Stout of Nottingham township farms 120 acres and
raises beef cattle, fruits and vegetables. Alan's
conservation efforts include no-till; cover crops;
nutrient management; classified forest; timber stand
improvement; grass and shrub field borders; and a CRP
snow fence. Alan has been an Associate Supervisor
for the SWCD since 2003.
