Wells Co. SWCD Supervisors

The Wells Co. SWCD board consists of 3 elected and 2 appointed supervisors.  These positions are three-year terms.  Appointed Supervisors are selected based on recommendations from the SWCD and approved by the State Soil Conservation Board.  The elected Supervisors are nominated by the election committee, and the SWCD holds the election at the SWCD Annual meeting to fill the expiring term of the elected Supervisor.

 

To be nominated as a candidate for the position of elected Supervisor, individuals:

  1. must be an occupier of a tract of land that is located within the district (Wells Co.);

  2. must maintain his or her permanent residence within the district (Wells Co.); and

  3. must be qualified by training or experience to perform the duties that is imposed on supervisors.

At the Supervisor election, during the SWCD Annual Meeting, any individual of voting age or a representative of a firm, company, or corporation that owns or rents land or property within the district (Wells Co.) may vote.  Eligible individuals include the owner and tenant of the same land or property as well as the owner's or tenant's spouse. 

 

SWCD Supervisor Election

The nominees for the 2012 election are Leann Nash and Alan Stout. 

 

Leann Nash lives in Jefferson township and operates a vegetable truck patch as well as works on the family farm.  She holds a B.S. in Human Resources Management, and completed Master Gardner classes.  Conservation practices performed on the farm include no-till, and cover crops.  Leann also uses organic farming practices in the production of the truck patch vegetables.     

 

Alan Stout, is a grain farmer from Nottingham township.  In addition to corn and soybeans, he also raises fruits, vegetables and beef cattle.  He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology, A.S. in Industrial Engineering Technology, and A.S. in Organizational Leadership.  Alan has been an SWCD Associate Supervisor since 2003, is a Hoosier Riverwatch volunteer and member of the Upper Wabash River Basin commission steering committee.  His conservation efforts include no-till, cover crops, field borders, nutrient management, rotational grazing, windbreaks, and timber stand improvement.
